An Open Clinical Trial on the Effectiveness of Domperidone in the Functional GI Disorder

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study is to assess the clinical therapeutic effectiveness and side effects of domperidone in the digestive disorder in Korea.
Sixty-five cases suffering from the functional GI disorder participated in an open clinical trial at the out-patient clinic of Seoul National University Hospital. One tablet (l0mg) of domperidone was given orally 30 minutes before meal 3 times a day for 2-4 weeks.
The effectiveness was assessed by the subjective decision in 4 different levels; excellent,. good, fair and not effective, and the cases with excellent or good responses to the drug were scored as effective.
Good to excellent improvement was obtained in 76.9% of the patients. Especially, epigastric sense of discomfort, vomiting, abdominal distention were significantly improved in more than 85% of the cases.
Mild side effects were reported in only 4 patients.
